Ready to climb the stairs of Croix-Rousse? We'll take you!
A bit of history
Croix-Rousse has been our neighborhood for almost ten years.
Also called "the hill that works" (a nod to Fourvière, "the hill that prays"), it has retained its village spirit with its markets, its creators and its colorful alleys.
Here you'll discover the legacy of the canuts, the silk weavers, and the canut apartments with their high ceilings, once necessary for the looms. Imagine the sound of the bistanclaques (shuttles used for weaving silk) that punctuated the neighborhood's atmosphere.
Today, it is a bohemian and creative district, perfect for strolling.
How to get to Croix-Rousse?
Lyon is on a human scale, and exploring the city on foot will allow you to discover its hidden alleys, its colorful facades and its small traboules.
From Place des Terreaux, take the Grande-Côte climb .
During your ascent you will come across:
- Designer boutiques,
- Multiple food shops (Lyonnais love to eat),
- Facades in pastel colors,
- The “Unico” ice cream parlor for a refreshing break.
Keep your eyes peeled: the lion's head symbol indicates the traboules open to the public. The most famous? The Cour des Voraces , a key place in the history of the canuts.
